Makeup Free Love

Hey All,

Firstly, happy Thanksgiving! I hope the holidays are treating you well. So as I think about natural and carcinogenic free beauty, I have also been thinking seriously about wearing make up in general. Why do I wear makeup? Do I need makeup? The reality is that I don’t; we don’t. I think that we wear makeup to feel better about ourselves and to attract folks to us. Well, I don’t want to rely on something external and subjective to feel beautiful and any folks that I want an intimate relationship with better like me with or without make up! Alright, yes, this is a wonderful dictum, but it is important to acknowledge that I was raised in an industrialized society that promotes superficiality and spends millions of dollars trying to convince you and me that we NEED that damn makeup. So… slowly I have been doing the makeup free life. As of now, I do not wear any store bought make up products. My routine is wash with honey, moisturize with oil, then at the most put on some powder I made.

To be honest, I feel beautiful…most of the time.

When I started crushing on this dude at work I second guessed everything. I started going back to wearing lipstick just so I felt extra beautiful…god damn superficial society! I do relapse, but the most part, as I grow more into my skin. I learn to love more of who I am, and truly do feel beautiful with what I see without any unnatural products.

I share this story to encourage you to reevaluate the products you use daily-especially makeup. Not even because of the nasty shit it contains, but really challenging the basis of why you do it. I promise you that you look extraordinarily beautiful w/o neutrogena’s help. Try to be make up free for a few days, a week even, and see how your skin feels. I tried to wear mascara the other day and my eyes swelled. My body is like..umm..fuck that nasty shit! lol

Keep me posted on your life happenings.

Much love,

Lo

GMO’s!!! Yuckies

Hello!

gmo

Even though this post focuses more on GMO’s which are in food, this is still relevant to living a toxin free life. We gotta focus on EVERYTHING we put into our bodies: liquids, foods, personal care products…

So I wanted to chat with yal about our lovely friend  called GMO’s. It stands for genetically modified organism and they are basically any plants or animals that have had their genes modified in any type of way. They are modified so they can withstand insecticides and all those other yummy weed and bug killing repellents.

So what’s the problem? I don’t want bugs in my stomach!

Some attributed side effects from GMO”s include:

Potentially increased food allergies (gluten intolerance), increased toxicity in the body,  decreased nutritional value and antibiotic resistance.

And check out this site for even scarier links to Parkinson and Alzheimer among others: http://www.collective-evolution.com/2014/04/08/10-scientific-studies-proving-gmos-can-be-harmful-to-human-health/

Anything that is not directly from a local antibiotic free, hormone free, pesticide free and grass fed farm is just not that healthy for you-that’s the reality.

I think what is difficult is the fact that we can’t see ourselves building up excess hormones in the body. We can’t see the toxins from all the pesticides we eat. But let me tell you-if we could- we would freak out:( The average human body has 4lbs of pesticides in it. N.A.S.T.Y.

Let’s continue to be aware.

spreading knowledge,

Lo

I’m Back:)

I haven’t posted in about a month and I apologize about that. I have been doing a lot of behind the scenes work, which is paying off. As I work on this business, I am gently reminded that you will not be handed things in life, you gotta work your ass off to get there. And these multiple business meetings, asking friends for favors and running around the god damn city of Boston are exciting but tiresome. But to be working towards something that I am passionate about is priceless.

We are here on this earth for such a short time, and I refuse to not live a life that I design for myself. It really is that simple:)

What drives you? What inspires you? Are you working toward your goals? One step at a time is all you need. If you are a perfectionist like me then we definitely need to remind ourselves of that point.

This post was just to remind you that I’m here, and that I’m available to answer any questions you may have.

xoxo,

My Committment to YOU and My History

Keep in mind: As I start this journey in creating organic, homemade, pure and simple products- I will be as honest with you as possible. That means full ingredient lists and research to back up why your body craves  each ingredient. Most importantly, as we continue this journey together, I want you to be proactive and do your own research. I am invested in my products and this experience for a couple of reasons…

When I was 11 years old I found a 8cm lump in my right breast. After the biopsy, I was diagnosed with juvenile fibroadenomas and I have 4 major surgeries removing masses ranging from 5cm to 9cm. From 11-21 years old I abided by modern medicine and its expectations. From 21 and onwards, I decided to define my own strategy. I have since become a vegetarian, I eat phythoestrogens to balance hormones, I identify and forage for local plants for medicine and food, I make tinctures and all of my personal hygiene products, and I am an avid practitioner of yoga and mindfulness training- all to ensure a healthier existence. Despite being diagnosed with a nasty bout of acid reflux and allergies galore- I am currently taking no modern medications:) <<<I do take meds, just herbal ones that I make:)

That’s a bit of my story. I think we will learn more about each other as time progresses, but if you have any questions or want to share your experiences please do.

Simple.Green.Love L.L.C. (Almost)

I will receive my LLC this week, therefore…I will be official:)

Trying to start a business has been crazy, and absolutely tiring. I met with some mentors today who ended up being useful, but were old and had old ways of thinking lol. There is definitely a divide between young entrepreneurs and older methods of starting a company.

Will keep you posted

Welcome All!

Hello Beautiful People!

Hello Beautiful People!

My name is Lo and I am the founder and CEO of Simple.Green.Love which provides organic, handmade and high quality hygienic products. Below is my Manifesto:

~*~Simple Green Love ~*~

When I think about the world, I am overwhelmed by conformity and complacency. It is scary how we are increasingly controlled by media and increasingly confined by societal expectations. We are smarter than this. When someone tells us something is “free” we naturally question it. That is because by definition we are inquisitive creatures, but recently we have become lazy. I am advocating for an innovation, an opportunity to redefine those expectations and ultimately empower change.

By offering an organic, pure and simple personal hygiene line, it is my modest way of redefining consumer products and consequently our relationship to our world. Hundreds of years ago, before mass production, what did people use to clean their face? I promise it wasn’t triclosan or ethanol. I also promise they weren’t smelling great from wonderful parabens (a common ingredient in deodorant which has been medically linked to cancer). People were cleaning themselves with luscious clays and moisturizing with salubrious oils. Simple. Green. Love. Why must we change now?

We are currently one of the most intoxicated and unhappy societies in the world. Furthermore, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to address every problem (although I do recommend mindfulness training and yoga). But we can begin somewhere, and starting to examine what we put on and into our bodies is a wonderful start.
